Description
Summary:The article introduces and contextualises the publication of the film script The Smile (Antarctica. Wonderland). The script was written by Andrei Tarkovsky and Oleg Osetinskii, with participation of Andrei Konchalovsky, during their early student days and intended for Tarkovsky's diploma film; however, the script was never published and belongs to the category of 'unrealised scripts'. The article traces the origins of the idea from the late 1950s to the literary script of the 1960s and discusses the change in title, as well as the treatment of the sacrificial child (or juvenile victim) in this early version.
