Shrnutí:The uniform channel decomposition (UCD) scheme is a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) transceiver that can achieve superior performance via decomposing a MIMO into multiple subchannels with the same gain. But for a MIMO orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system in a frequency-selective channel, the conventional per-subcarrier precoding may render the effective channel, i.e., the concatenation of the precoders and the channel, unsmooth in the frequency domain, causing difficulties to the channel estimation at the receiver. This paper presents novel enhancements to the UCD scheme for its adoption in MIMO-OFDM system. We first propose a modified UCD for MIMO-OFDM that mitigates frequency domain discontinuities caused by varying singular value pairing orders within subbands. Based on the modified UCD, two enhancements of the UCD, namely the phase-rotated UCD Type I (PRUCD-I) and Type II (PRUCD-II) are proposed, which can maintain superior performance of the UCD while making the effective channel as smooth as possible in the frequency domain. The PRUCD-I sequentially optimizes the two phase rotation matrices of the UCD, offering a low-complexity approach, whereas the PRUCD-II optimizes them alternately to achieve higher performance. The PRUCD can also accommodate for downlink multi-user communications using block diagonalization. The superior performance of the proposed PRUCD schemes in both the bit error rate (BER) and the sum throughput is verified using a 5G new radio simulator for both single-user and multi-user scenarios. •We propose phase-rotated uniform channel decomposition schemes for MIMO-OFDM precoding.•The proposed schemes improve BER performance and channel estimation performance.•We extend PRUCD to multi-user scenario.•We verify the superior performance of the PRUCD 5G-NR compliant simulations.
