Abstract En marzo de 1950 la prensa española recogía en sus páginas la noticia de la acogida de 500 niños palestinos en el Protectorado español en Marruecos. El proyecto había comenzado a gestarse un año antes entre el Alto Comisario, Enrique Valera, y Francisco Franco en Madrid. Se trataba de ofrecer una ayuda que contribuyera a paliar la situación humanitaria en la que vivía la población palestina y que permitiera a España acercarse a la región y a Naciones Unidas. En el proyecto, España gestionaría una ayuda que partía del Protectorado y que era patrocinada por el Jalifa. Este artículo analiza los intereses españoles en la gestión de la ayuda humanitaria en dos aspectos concretos: el intento de acogida de refugiados en Marruecos y el envío de ayuda material a la población palestina.
