Abstract Raúl Prebisch (1901-1986) fue un economista destacado en la historia económica nacional e internacional y sus aportes a la escuela estructuralista del pensamiento económico mantienen vigencia en la actualidad. El presente trabajo procura abordar sus principales ideas en torno a la crisis capitalista desatada desde los setenta en sus últimos trabajos hasta su muerte (1980-1986). Recuperar su teoría centrada en la dinámica capitalista entre centro y periferia para comprender la madurez de sus ideas se torna de especial relevancia para contar con una interpretación integral del funcionamiento del capitalismo mundial de aquellos años. Sostenemos que sus explicaciones en estos años permiten dar cuenta del desarrollo de una crisis de componentes inéditos que caracterizó a la posterior fase de desarrollo neoliberal
