Abstract El modelo Centro-Periferia tiene como fundamento teórico la asimetría de las relaciones comerciales con términos de intercambio desfavorables a la periferia y una distribución inequitativa del progreso técnico. Este artículo tiene por objeto, en lo general, analizar la pertinencia de una conceptualización no lineal de periferia dada la evolución de los términos de intercambio y la composición de las exportaciones de Argentina, Brasil y México, economías representativas de la inserción y funcionalidad de la periferia en la globalidad de la acumulación. En lo particular, analizar si la economía mexicana fuese menos vulnerable a choques externos dada una relación comercial con el centro sustentada en manufacturas y no en recursos, situación no prevista en el modelo clásico centro-periferia. Para tal efecto, se realiza un ejercicio empírico con base en un modelo VAR a fin de examinar la interrelación de los Términos de intercambio y Crecimiento (PIB) de México. The Center-Periphery model is theoretically based on the asymmetry of trade relations with terms of trade unfavorable to the periphery and inequitable distribution of technical progress. The purpose of this paper is, in general, to analyze the relevance of a non-linear conceptualization of the Periphery given the evolution of the terms of trade and the composition of exports from Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, representative of the insertion and functionality of the periphery in the globality of accumulation. In particular, to analyze whether the Mexican economy would be less vulnerable to external shocks given a trade relationship with the Center based on manufacturing and not on resources, a situation not foreseen in the classic Center-Periphery model. To this end, an empirical exercise is carried out based on a VAR model in order to examine the interrelation of the terms of trade and growth (GDP) of Mexico.
