Beschreibung: The digitalization of the scientific process lead to the emergence of research software as a foundational pillar of modern research. The Scientific Software Center (SSC) at Heidelberg University provides institutional support to researchers of all faculties of Heidelberg University in software development and software engineering best practices. The SSC promotes reproducibility and sustainability of research software, and provides services in research software development for researchers of all disciplines. This whitepaper is intended to describe the SSC and its implementation strategy to aid in implementing research software engineering departments and institutional support at German universities and research institutions, as well as provide information to German funding agencies, policy makers and researchers at Heidelberg University.
