| Popis: | M.Phil. ; The study focuses on the translations and writings by a famed modern Chinese scholar Wang Guowei (1877-1927) during his early academic pursuit in Jiaoyu Shijie Publishing House (1901-1907) in late Qing (1840-1912), and examines how Wang employed translation as a tool of thought to engage himself in the ethical dialogues between the East and the West. ; Due to insufficient attention to Wang Guowei’s translation and its relationship with his own writings, previous research often finds Wang wavering between different ethics in a turbulent late Qing China, instead of seeing the eclectic tendency in his character. Through historical and textual analysis, the thesis argues that the elusiveness of Wang’s scholarly activities during this period was interrelated with his eclectically conscious selection and treatment of various source texts to translate. Wang was not only interested in source text authors with similarly eclectic tendency, but also tried to reconcile diverse ideas by translating different schools of thought. As a result, his ethical efforts, grounded in both philosophy and science, were an attempt to balance knowledge and morality in a world dominated by scientific mentality. This thesis aims to explore the early translation activities of Wang Guowei for a deeper understanding of this translator-thinker in modern Chinese history, and meanwhile ponders upon the question posed by Wang about the complex relationship between ethics and scholarship in a transcultural context. ; 本論文以清末學人王國維（1877-1927年）於其學術生涯早期在教育世界出版社（1901-1907年）發表的倫理相關翻譯與著述為研究對象，探討譯者如何以翻譯為思辨工具，進行東西倫理思想對話。 ; 前行研究多因對王國維此期的譯作以及譯作與著作之間的關係有所忽視與誤讀，更多地看到他在晚清道德風向劇變中的身不由己，而鮮少注意到其中對東西新舊倫理進行調和的努力。本研究從翻譯史的角度入手，認為王國維在晚清內憂外患的歷史處境中，藉翻譯調和東西新舊倫理觀念，以此思考時人面臨各種不同思想資源時何以安身立命這一問題。王國維有感於當時中國思想界的邊界之爭，有意選擇內含調和的文本進行翻譯，同時翻譯不同思想的過程亦幫助他進一步磨合思想之間的張力，深化對不同觀點的融會貫通。具體而言，在西方倫理思想經由日本譯入中國時，王國維譯著中的倫理觀主要呈現出哲學與科學的雙重面向。哲學與科學的倫理觀兩者均通過精密分析而得，帶有西方學術體系中哲學與科學的系統理論共同點。與此同時，兩者又受到中國傳統中以道德為宗的思想之影響，不致因過分強調知識的確實而陷入學術的無意識，丟失了倫理的實踐旨歸。 ; 張思楠. ; "2020年11月". ; Thesis M.Phil.
