Popis: This article presents a comprehensive study of non-binary pronouns in the German language as part of the broader process of linguistic inclusion in the context of growing gender diversity. Against the backdrop of ongoing public debates concerning the rights of transgender and non-binary individuals, language is increasingly seen not only as a tool of communication but also as a means of identity expression, recognition, and equality. The paper outlines various linguistic strategies that go beyond the traditional binary gender model, including the gender asterisk (*), gender gap (_), Binnen-I capitalization, neutral descriptive forms such as Studierende, innovative pronouns (xier, nin, hen, sier), and experimental morphological forms with the suffix -x (e.g., Kollegx). The article analyzes their features in written and spoken language, as well as their prevalence across academic, administrative, media, and informal contexts. Special attention is given to the normative status of non-binary forms in German-speaking countries, including the responses of language institutions (Duden, GfdS, Österreichisches Sprachenkomitee) and the practices of universities and municipal administrations (Berlin, Leipzig, Zurich). The study employs linguistic, sociolinguistic, cultural, comparative, and discourse analysis methods, allowing linguistic inclusion to be understood as a multidimensional phenomenon at the intersection of language use and social change. The conclusion emphasizes that non-binary forms not only transform grammatical structures but also reflect broader social demands for gender equality, indicating a shift in ideological frameworks within contemporary society. Despite resistance from parts of the population, particularly older generations, the linguistic system is gradually adapting to new realities, and the ongoing inclusion of non-binary language in German is evidence of deeper cultural shifts that warrant further investigation.
Стаття присвячена комплексному дослідженню небінарних займенників у німецькій мові як складової ширшого процесу мовної інклюзії в контексті зростаючої гендерної різноманітності. На тлі активних суспільних дискусій про права трансгендерних і небінарних осіб мова дедалі частіше розглядається не лише як інструмент комунікації, а й як засіб ідентифікації, визнання і рівності. У роботі схарактеризовано різноманітні лінгвістичні стратегії, які виходять за межі бінарної гендерної моделі: гендерну зірочку (*), гендерний геп (_), формулу Binnen-I, нейтральні дескриптивні конструкції типу Studierende, інноваційні займенники (xier, nin, hen, sier) та експериментальні морфологічні форми із суфіксом -x (Kollegx). Проаналізовано особливості їхнього функціонування у письмовому та усному мовленні, рівень поширення в академічних, адміністративних, медійних і неформальних контекстах. Окрема увага приділяється нормативному статусу небінарних форм у країнах німецькомовного простору: схарактеризовано реакцію мовних інституцій (Duden, GfdS, Österreichisches Sprachenkomitee), а також практики університетів і муніципальних адміністрацій (Берлін, Лейпциг, Цюрих). У статті використано лінгвістичний, соціолінгвістичний, культурологічний, порівняльний і дискурсивний методи аналізу, що дозволяє розглядати мовну інклюзію як багатовимірний феномен на перетині мовної практики та соціальної динаміки. Зроблено висновок, що небінарні форми у мові не лише трансформують граматичну систему, а й репрезентують соціальні запити на гендерну рівність, вказуючи на зміну ідеологічних координат у сучасному суспільстві. Незважаючи на спротив частини носіїв мови, зокрема старших поколінь, мовна система поступово адаптується до нових реалій, а сам процес інклюзивізації німецької мови є свідченням глибших культурних зрушень, що потребують подальшого дослідження.
