| Popis: | The article sets the goal to detect and describe the means which are used to form the conceptual images in modern British periodicals representing the problems of Britain's exit from the EU. The research material includes texts from the leading British periodicals (The Economist, The Spectator, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent) dating from the year 2017 up to the year 2019. Linguo-cognitive analysis of verbal metaphors used in the image formation is carried out along with traditional linguistic analysis on the lexical, stylistic and socio linguistic levels. The article demonstrates that sport, military, theatrical and culinary metaphors play a major role in generating images on the political arena of Brexit. The analysis shows that metaphors make the complicated process of Brexit more understandable, contribute to the formation of stereotypes, and disclose the evolution of images. The derogatory connotation which prevails in the majority of metaphors is a proof of the negative perception of this phenomenon in the axiological picture, verbalized by media texts. The research presented may be of interest to a wide range of scholars in the field of cognitive and political linguistics, political science, history and sociology. В статье рассматривается формирования образов в современных британских СМИ в рамках сценария выхода Великобритании из Евросоюза. |
