In this article, we reassess the role of silver coinage in 5th–6th century Gaul, challenging the notion of its disappearance after the Roman period. Based on the study of around 900 coins, we show that silver continued to be produced and used, though with new techniques such as die transfer, hammering, and punching. These technical and typological changes reflect broader political and cultural transformations, shedding new light on post-Roman economic practices and archaeological chronology.
