| Popis: | According to the theoretical approach of positive youth development, supportive interactions between adolescents and their context, e.g., peers, are crucial for their adaptive developmental outcomes, such as their well-being. Although previous studies have investigated the association between friendship quality and well-being, not many have examined this in daily life. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to investigate the cross-lagged associations between friendship quality and well-being in adolescents' everyday life, by using the experience sampling method (ESM). Friendship quality was operationalised as positive and negative characteristics of friendship (five items), while well-being was operationalised as positive and negative affect (ten items). The EARS mobile app sent participants questionnaires seven times a day for seven days. Our sample consisted of 130 Croatian second grade high school students (58% female; Mage=15.91 years; SD = .31). To test our hypotheses, we conducted four bivariate models using Dynamic Structural Equation Modelling (DSEM). An increase in self-disclosure, enjoyment and fun with friends correlated with an increase in positive affect and a decrease in negative affect, while an increase in feelings of being criticised and annoyed by friends correlated with an increase in both positive and negative affect. In addition, positive affect predicted an increase in perceived self-disclosure, enjoyment and fun two hours later, whereas negative affect predicted an increase in feelings of being criticised and annoyed two hours later. These findings will be discussed in the context of the positive youth development approach, focussing on ways to promote the well-being of adolescents. |
