Autori pružaju sustavan pregled teorijskih postavki, povijesnog razvoja, metoda i standarda fonetske transkripcije, s posebnim naglaskom na njezinu primjenu u hrvatskom jeziku. Strukturirana u nekoliko tematskih cjelina, knjiga pokriva osnovne principe komunikacije, međunarodnu fonetsku abecedu (IPA), specifičnosti hrvatskog jezičnog sustava u kontekstu transkripcije te upotrebu transkripcije u logopediji, lingvistici i govornoj patologiji. Posebna poglavlja posvećena su instrumentnim metodama transkripcije, prijenosu govora u pisani oblik i atipičnim oblicima govora. Uz bogat teorijski sadržaj, knjiga sadrži i praktične primjere koji omogućuju studentima, istraživačima i stručnjacima iz područja jezika, fonetike i govorne terapije dublje razumijevanje i primjenu fonetske transkripcije u svakodnevnom radu.
