| Beschreibung: | This study investigates the mediating role of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the relationship between village governance and village autonomy in West Java, Indonesia. Drawing on Public Accountability Theory, Good Governance Theory, Human Capital Theory, and Sustainable Development Theory, the research explores how four governance factors—village fund management, accountability, human resources, and local regulations—affect village independence, both directly and through SDG implementation. Using a quantitative approach and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLSSEM) on survey data from 372 village officials, the study finds that all governance variables significantly influence both SDG implementation and village autonomy. Moreover, SDG implementation partially mediates the impact of governance factors on village independence, with Variance Accounted For (VAF) values ranging from 33% to 65%. The findings highlight the strategic importance of embedding sustainability frameworks within local governance systems to foster autonomous and resilient rural communities. The study offers both theoretical contributions and practical recommendations for policy interventions aimed at aligning decentralized governance with global development agendas. |
