Taking into account the linguistic tradition and musicology heritage as well as contemporary usage, user needs and functional criteria of the special field is the basis for the standardization of basic musical terminology within the research project Conmusterm. The paper discusses key terminological issues in the Croatian music terminology on the examples from expert pedagogical literature and the curricula for primary and secondary music education. Special attention is paid to the specific features of the music terminology, such as diachronic polysemy and the resistance of a part of the terminology to assimilation, where it is necessary to abandon the generally accepted terminological principles.
