Abstrakt: The reaction of cobalt tetrafluoroborate hexahydrate with 2,2'-bipyridine (Bpy) and diphenylphosphinic acid (Ph2P(O)OH) gave a new binuclear cobalt(II) complex [Co2(µ-O2PPh2)2(Bpy)4](BF4)2 featuring a sterically demanding bridging ligand. The complex was characterized by various physicochemical methods, and the crystal structure of the complex was determined by X-ray diffraction. Analysis of the X-ray diffraction structure of the complex showed that the cobalt ions have a distorted octahedral coordination and are linked by bridges through two {µ-O2PPh2} moieties. The data of ESR spectroscopy and magnetochemical measurements indicate the presence of a weak antiferromagnetic interaction between the cobalt ions in the molecule. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
