The exhaust gas emitted by a stenter machine will lead to energy waste and environmental heat pollution. Therefore, designing an efficient waste heat recovery apparatus for exhaust gas not only protects the environment but also saves production costs. In the article, the heat transfer performance and pressure drop of three types of heat exchangers: flat-plate heat exchanger (PHE), wavy-PHE, and zigzag-PHE were numerically studied in the context of waste heat recovery from the exhaust gas of stenter machines. The heat transfer rate (Q), Nusselt number (Nu), Colburn factor (j), pressure drop, Fanning friction factor (f), and comprehensive performance factor (JF) were investigated while Reynolds numbers ranged from 1000 to 9000. An experimental measurement was devised to validate the accuracy of the numerical simulation. The results of the research indicate that the wavy-PHE exhibits improved heat transfer efficiency and reduced pressure drop, primarily attributed to the substantial generation of secondary flow. Three new correlations for Nusselt number in different PHEs were developed based on commonly existing empirical formulas. The prediction accuracy for the Nusselt number based on the new correlations has been significantly improved in the present study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
