Abstrakt: This article examines the invention of a radical microprocessor architecture by computer scientists at the University of Texas-Austin. This architecture aims to solve some of the most vexing problems facing chip designers. If successful, the U.S. Defense Department-funded effort could lead to processors of unprecedented performance and flexibility. This new microprocessor and instruction set architecture is called Trips, or the Teraop Reliable Intelligently Adaptive Processing System. Trips' goal is to exploit concurrency, whether it is given by the programmer or not. INSET: THE TRIPS COMPILER.
