Abstract: This paper proposes a novel approach, which incorporates the integral-type control barrier function with backstepping method, to design a finite-time output safe controller for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems. In this paper, safety, described as forward invariance of a set in the state space, is guaranteed with the help of the control barrier function. Different from the related works, we provide the explicit construction of the control barrier function, which intuitively demonstrates the feasibility of our control strategy. Importantly, for the first time, integral-type functions are exploited to construct the expected control barrier function, making it possible to achieve both finite-time stabilisation and output safety of the system simultaneously. Notably, two technical propositions are presented to estimate critical design functions, which disclose the intuition and rationality behind the control design. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by two simulation examples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
