The text discusses the evolution and impact of collaborative contracting practices such as partnering and alliancing in the construction industry over the past three decades. It highlights the benefits and challenges associated with these forms of collaboration, as well as the need for further research to understand their institutional, organizational, and national influences. The special issue aims to advance theoretical insights into collaborative contracting by exploring themes such as institutional context, national influences, partnering in the public sector, organizational tensions, relational capabilities, dynamic trajectories of collaboration, and evaluating performance. The call for papers invites contributions that address these themes and emphasizes the importance of diverse theoretical perspectives in understanding the complex nature of collaborative contracting.
